This song is not a comment on the state of the world. Just like with Madness Reigns, the word "dictator" simply appeared during the writing process and I ran with it.
Dictator was one of the many leftover ideas from the Disco Dystopia writing session. It was basically just a a bunch of endlessly modulating keyboard arpeggios but at some point I had added drums and a bass line that tied the sections together and the vocal line came fairly easily in the end.
lyrics
A symphony of false dichotomies
A binary solution that I do not need
Express delivery on a darkened street
Squelching mud underneath my feet
A symmetry of unclear past events
Unerringly obtuse and without sense
My mind is like a laundrette in disarray
Sodden clothes on a window pane
Time slows down
World tumbles
As your
Lenient
Benevolent
Dictator
Disapproves
Your eloquent
Emollient
Dictator
Consumes
The architect of unbiased intellect
Consuming anything you might regret
The suspense is merely causing mild duress
I don’t know and I won’t confess
A relatable if unclear anecdote
Tumbles from your mouth before you up and choke
Expect to be oppressed by boring men
Not that you’re any better than them
Time slows down
World tumbles
As your
Lenient
Benevolent
Dictator
Disapproves
Your eloquent
Emollient
Dictator
Consumes
