This song was supposed to be one of the key compositions on this album. The title and concept - such as it is - came from David Graeber's book Debt, which I've actually yet to finish. It was going to be deep and meaningful.
But it just never quite came together and I initially left it off the album completely. After a while, though, it started bothering me and wouldn't leave me alone. So I went back, fixed what I could, added some off-kilter guitar solos, mixed it and here it is now, where it's supposed to be.
I promise this truly is the last song on the album. I'm going on a break for a while now.
lyrics
Further down the rabbit hole
Of useless faux-work
You owe the world, the society
Your everything, your worth
Passed down through generations
The obligation to serve
Yours is not to question why
You don’t even get to do or die
They
Will
Make
You
Pay
Never mind the growing din
The noise will not relent
Dive right in, it’s sink or swim
And more fake money spent
This slate can’t be wiped clean
It’s an existential debt
And you will carry it to your grave
The one goal for which you’ve been enslaved
They
Will
Make
You
Pay
