Knife Edge was the last piece of music I wrote for the project, and it began as a Van Halen ripoff.
In mid April 2022 I was working on vocal melodies for three other songs, none of which made the cut, and having just recently watched a video of David Lee Roth talking about how Jump has just the right BPM so you can dance to it and not spill your drink, I thought "Hmm, interesting concept".
Long story short; I wrote a simple, 128 BPM, major key(!) song in about 10 minutes.
Then I spent two weeks trying to arrange and rewrite and mix it because it had something in it that I liked but the fucking thing just wouldn't work. I rewrote the verse so many times in the end I didn't what the hell I was even trying to do.
The final result? Well, I don't know. Except that I needed to finish it to be able to move on. I guess I like some of the guitar work, especially in the intro.
The only thing that remains form the original demo is the BPM. Everything else was rewritten or thrown out. I does have something of an 80s vibe to it.
lyrics
I walk
A serrated knife edge
Unknown
It's already too late
It's time...
You say go
When you mean stay
When I say no
It means I'll pay
I drift
Like a broken insect
Unknown
In a flow of neglect
It's time...
You say go
When you mean stay
When I say no
It means I'll pay
