The title is undeniably pretentious, but the song isn't. Well, it probably is. At least this description of it scales hitherto unseen heights of pretentiousness:
It is the most pure amalgamation of everything I've ever done musically. Except it doesn't feature black metal vocals.
When I discovered the bare bones of the song - titled simply New Song May 2020 - on my computer in March 2021, I had no idea what my original vision for the piece might have been. It was basically just collection layered beat loops with no melody or chord structure.
So I tried to approach the song as it were something I might've written almost a year ago. And in reaching back into my past I managed to pull something from it to the present and in the process created something that might actually point a way forward, to the future.
I told you this was gonna be pretentious.
But never mind. If you're reading this, you're probably listening to the song as well, and for that I am thankful.
lyrics
Nothing left up my sleeve
No more tricks to pull
A conjurer of some renown
(A) has-been, paid in full
From mournful past
To tortured present
A storied future lies ahead
Surely
Nothing left, all tapped out
I'm running on fumes
A confidence trickster reduced
To living by their rules
From mournful past
To tortured present
A storied future lies ahead
Surely
No one gets in
No one gets out
A blood stained memory prevails
Securely
