This song was written around the same time as Emotional Vampire and it deals with some of the same events and phenomena, but as with all my songs, you shouldn't read too much into the lyrics. They are mainly there to contribute to the overall mood of the song in a - hopefully - positive fashion.
The Plague started as a synth pop song and went through a couple different iterations before it became with it is now. I hesitated to sing it without any harmonies or vocal doubling but in the end had to agree that the vocal had to be really bare and simple. As with all my songs, none of the vocals have been tuned even slightly, what you hear is how I sang it.
Incidentally, the same applies to the guitar and bass tracks. They have been copy pasted across different sections here and there, but not a single note placement has been fixed nor have I corrected the tunings after the fact. All midi tracks have been extensively meddled with, however.
If you think this song sounds a bit like Iron Maiden, you're entirely correct.
lyrics
I’m running out of things to say
I’m running out of time
It’s not enough
There’s no reprieve
That’s what I choose to believe
You’re trying hard to look sincere
But you’re committed to lie
You act surprised
And play the part
That you knew from the start
Cause I know what you’re dreaming of
It’s written on your face
I know what you’re thinking of
Your thoughts are like the plague
I’m not going there
I know
I’m chasing down a rolling cloud
Struggling to be free
You tighten the knot
You pull the leash
You think you know what it means
Cause I know what you’re dreaming of
It’s written on your face
I know what you’re thinking of
Your thoughts are like the plague
I’m not going there
I know
