Where We Lost

by Graine

/
1.
A simple hint upon my face From an awkward kind of place The purpose of a pointless worry To speak to you as if you didn't care But I'm for looking on The pages in my head Abbreviated versions Of any given day Another sign of no one else In the distance where it sways The purpose of an endless dial To carry on as you were not there But I'm for looking on The pages in my head Abbreviated versions Of any given day I knew it had to happen Boredom in my stead To hell with consequences I'm defenseless

Stationary 03:33
Well you're almost home And it's quite inviting In a restless way Some things were lost Still others found But no common ground Did it ever occur to you They might not want you around? Any move that you make And it's that stationary sound You're back in your room And it's almost soothing Through a drunken haze And upon the wall Your younger self Observes your fall Did it ever occur to you They might not want you around? Any move that you make And it's that stationary sound In the back of your mind You must have known this would transpire No remedy inside You stand on stationary trial A deserted yard Your feet a swaying To a ragged beat For a little while Everything worth saving Was laid at your feet Did it ever occur to you They might not want you around? Any move that you make And it's that stationary sound In the back of your mind You must have known this would transpire No remedy inside You stand on stationary trial

Not a Trace 03:42
Am I to make an effort To somehow carry on Forget my splintered self worth And slowly crawl along My face is lined and broken And yet I still refuse To simply be forgotten What do I have to lose? I could never choose what to believe in And I could never be the same as you Thought you had a trace You thought you had me fooled I'm over you You know I might be stronger From all I've seen and heard I'll wait for you no longer And you can rest assured Cuz I have yet to give you The thing you so desire And nothing I have been through Is ever worth your while I could never choose what to believe in And I could never be the same as you Thought you had a trace You thought you had me fooled I'm over you Ah, got another mind to disapprove Ah, who are you? You speak as if you knew me From many years ago I am running on empty To some extent, I know I'll shiver in my corner And hang my head in shame For you it's almost over For you it's just a game

Pilotlights 03:30
Of all the remnants I have mirrored in my mind Of all the seconds that you had to stay behind Through the curtains I can see what's left inside Fascinated by the thoughts you kept disguised Ignite the pilotlights No can do No how to keep an eye on you So lost instead And gone ahead There's still another coat to shed Of all the traces that remind me of this time Of all the places where I like to go and hide Through the motions everything you'd realized Incarcerated by it all you strayed aside Framed in pilotlights No can do No how to keep an eye on you So lost instead And gone ahead There's still another coat to shed No can do No how to keep an eye on you So far ahead You went instead Clinging to memories I'm left

Come Along 04:27
A moment like any other past That keeps on over turning I stay on, the forgotten words still Hoping to grasp their meaning I'm left out to my own offences Imagine all the choices The outcome is hardly what I meant And the moment decidedly impatient And all I ever thought about Was keeping myself isolated Never thought of falling out The one thing I had not envisioned Got lost in an alien crows Absent minded, empty handed One thing that I said out loud Became so large That now it's almost gone Come along, the fading sound Another instant like any other time As far as I remember A far cry from what I had pictured The focus out of order I left you to your own defenses Collecting all the pieces The outcome was hardly what I meant And that instant decidedly impatient And all I ever thought about Was keeping myself isolated Never thought of falling out The one thing I had not envisioned Got lost in an alien crows Absent minded, empty handed One thing that I said out loud Became so large That now it's almost gone Come along, the fading sound

This Place 04:11
Wait just a little while This may take a little time Burned out in the backyard Is the soul that you came to steal Born in an ending time I can see you were captured blind Strapped in on a cold day Was the creed that you wanted freed I keep returning to this place I've seen it all before Lights are dying in the back Can't feel them anymore Dawn coming far and wide Gliding down towards the sign Flying on a dark cloud Has the day that you dreaded come Born in an ending time Life itself it can be blind Force fed on the subway Sits the man that you've now become

about

Graine is a band. Janne Ranta (aka Johnny Beach) and I started it almost exactly 19 years ago, in June 2002. Originally it was just the two of us writing songs and dreaming big, but eventually Janne persuaded Juha Pesonen to join as our drummer in 2005. We finally had a real musician among us!

Where We Lost is the culmination of almost 6 years of continuous effort to become better songwriters and better players. We'd released a number of demos during that time, won some radio contests and lost some too, but this one was the real deal. It was recorded in a proper, professional studio by Mikko Luontama as part of his audio engineer studies. I've since lost track of Mikko but he sure made us sound good, and I hope he's out there making great artists sound even better.

Anyway, long story short; we released the demo in 2008 and the general feeling at the time was that we had some momentum and things would happen. We got some attention from labels (polite and not so polite rejections) and demo reviews in the music press (fair to middling) and then the unimaginable happened. I got a job.

Fast forward to present day and we're still working on the followup. It's all a bit Spinal Tap and I won't go into the details, but suffice to say middle age caught up with Graine in all its gory magnificence. But who knows, maybe we will return. Stranger things have happened.
